Alan M. Kramer-Men’s & Women’s Tennis Coach/Athletic Director/Asst. Professor in the School of Human Sciences

Coach Alan Kramer completed his B.S. degree in Exercise Science at Truman St. University in 1991 while playing 4-years of intercollegiate tennis and being named captain his senior year. Kramer also served as Assistant Intramural Director at Truman from 1989-91. Kramer went on to earn his M.S. degree in Education with an emphasis in Health & Human Performance at Baylor University. While at Baylor he was the Assistant men’s and women’s Tennis Coach at McLennan Community College (MCC) under legendary Hall of Fame Coach Carmack Berryman. In 1993 after winning a National Championship at MCC with the men and National Runner-Up with the women, Kramer had the opportunity to resurrect the Fillies women’s tennis program at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) and coach alongside legendary Hall of Fame men’s coach Norman “Red” Hill.

During Kramer’s 16-year tenure with the tennis teams, he has coached 44 All-Americans and has accumulated 274 wins and 158 losses along with 17 Region XVII Coach of the Year awards.

His Fillies have won the Region XVII Championship 16 consecutive years. In 1999 the Fillies finished National Runner-up and they have finished in the top ten nationally ten years. Kramer has an accumulative record with the Fillies of 159 wins and 84 losses and has coached 18 All-Americans and two National Champions, Milena Stanoytcheva and Monika Lalewicz. Kramer was named ITA/Wilson National Intercollegiate Women’s Coach of the Year in 1998 and 2007. He was named Region XVII Coach of the Year 10 times.

His Stallions have claimed eight Region XVII Championships. In 2002 and 2003 the Stallions finished National Runner-up and in 2008 & 2009 they finished 3rd nationally. Kramer has an accumulative record with the Stallions of 115 wins and 74 losses and has coached 26 All-Americans.   In 2006, Kramer was the recipient of the Hershel Stephens Award for Outstanding Service and Dedication to the Men’s Coaches Association.  In 2009 Kramer was voted ITA Region IV Coach of the Year. In 2002 his men’s team was named the National USA All-American Team. He was named Region XVII Coach of the Year 7 times.

Kramer is the President of the Men’s Tennis Coaches Association after having served as the Vice-President from 2006-2009. He served as the Women’s National Ranking Chair from 1998-2000 and as Men’s National Ranking Chair and from 2004-2008. He was the Southeastern United States Women’s Ranking Chair from 1995-1999 and Men’s from 2001-2003. Kramer was appointed to the ITA National Small College Operating Committee from 2004-2008 and has been the GJCAA Men’s and Women’s Tennis Chair since 1994. In 2003 Kramer was named the USTA/ITA Campus Recreation Award Winner for the USTA Southern Section. Kramer is a USPTR certified Professional and has directed and taught at tennis camps at Lehigh University, PA; Brown University, RI; Camp Powhattan Portland, ME; Camp Canadensis, Stroudsburg, PA; ABAC, Tifton, GA; and Truman St. University, Kirksville, MO. He has been Tournament Director for a myriad of high school and USTA junior tournaments including the Red Hill Classic and the GISA State Championships.

Kramer has served as Athletic Director at ABAC since 2000.  Kramer played a key role in implementing the Athletic Hall of Fame.  He also assisted in the development of a new $1 million athletic complex, including soccer fields, softball fields, and a track as well as the first ever athletic center, the $1 million Red Hill Athletic Center, which now provides locker rooms, offices and training room for tennis, softball and baseball.

Kramer spent four weeks in Brazil in the summer of 2009 as part of the Fulbright-Hays Grant.  Kramer served as the co-chair for Relay For Life at ABAC and began the Serving For a Cure clinic sponsored by the tennis teams on campus in 2002. Kramer is an active member of the Sertoma Club and serves as a celebrity waiter for the Tift County Foundation for Educational Excellence.
